Improving Satellite Quickbird-based Identification of Landscape Archaeological Features through Tasseled Cap Transformation and Pca
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, the Tasseled Cap Transformation (TCT) was applied to QuickBird multispectral images for extracting archaeological features linked to ancient human transformations of the landscape. The investigation was performed on Metaponto, one of the most important archaeological sites in the South of Italy. The analysis was focused on the identification of ancient land divisions likely related to Greek colonization. The obtained results showed that the use of TCT and PCA successfully enhanced the spectral information content of satellite QuickBird data; thus, allowing the detection of archaeological features with a high level of detail * Corresponding author. New perspectives for satellite-based archaeological research in the ancient territory of Hierapolis (Turkey)
This paper deals with the use of satellite QuickBird images to find traces of past human activity in the ancient territory of Hierapolis (Turkey). This is one of the most important archaeological sites in Turkey, and in 1988 it was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Although over the years the archaeological site of Hierapolis has been excavated, restored and well documented, up to no...
متن کاملOrthogonal Equations of Multi-Spectral Satellite Imagery for the Identification of Un-Excavated Archaeological Sites
This paper aims to introduce new linear orthogonal equations for different satellite data derived from QuickBird; IKONOS; WorldView-2; GeoEye-1, ASTER; Landsat 4 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ sensors, in order to enhance the exposure of crop marks. The latest are of significant value for the detection of buried archaeological features using remote sensing techniques. The proposed transformations, re-pr...
متن کاملRFMOTE SENSINC OF ENVIRONMENT 17:301-306 (1985) SHORT COMMUNICATION A TM Tasseled Cap Equivalent Transformation for Reflectance Factor Data*
The Tasseled Cap transformations of Landsat MSS (Kauth and Thomas, 1976) and TM (Crist and Cicone, 1984a,b) data provided a mechanism for data volume reduction and enhanced data interpretability by emphasizing the structures in the spectral data which arise as a result of particular physical characteristics of scene classes. The basic concepts underlying these transformations are discussed by C...
متن کاملFrom the Aerial Photo to High Resolution Satellite Image. Tools for the Archaeological Research
The aim of this project is to evaluate the possibilities that the high resolution satellite image offers in the field of archaeological research. More specific, the present study concerns the identification of buried archaeological remains with the aid of the Pansharpened (fused) image Quickbird-2. For this purpose, the fused image (spatial resolution 0.70m and spectral resolution 4 bands), tha...
متن کاملLinear Spectral Unmixing for the Detection of Neolithic Settlements in the Thessalian Plain, central Greece
Vegetation crop marks may be formed in areas where vegetation overlays near-surface archaeological remains. These features retain soil moisture with different percentage of moisture compared to the rest of the crops of an area. Depending on the type of feature, crop vigour may be enhanced or reduced by buried archaeological features. Satellite imagery has been already applied successfully in se...
